Nyeri Diaspora Leadership Academy Holds an Impactful Environmental Project Through a donation of $4,885.00 made by the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South in November 2023.
Through a donation of $4,885.00 made by the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South in November 2023, supported an impactful environmental project that was conducted in the town of Nyeri Kenya.
NDLA President Prof. Peter Ndiang’ui was joined by the members of the Rotary Club of Nyeri and Jesse Kerpan of the Rotary Club of New Brunswick, Canada to clean up the historical town of Nyeri which serves as the headquarters of the central part of Kenya.
Nyeri is the burial place of Lord and Lady Barden Powell the founders of the worldwide Scouting Movement. It is also recognized as the place where the late Queen Elizabeth slept as a princess and woke up as the queen of England when her father passed away as she slept.
The team under the direction of Nyeri Diaspora Leadership Academy (NDLA) mobilized more than 500 people to embark on a major clean up project. Later, the team used the remaining funds donated by our club to support the children of NDLA with school fees for the next term.
The members of the Nyeri Diaspora Advisory Council present in this function included Prof. Peter Ndiang’ui, Prof. Mundia Kahiga, Rachel Mutheru, Raphael Wanjohi, Priscilla Ndiang’ui (wife of Peter) and a new member Carol Wambugu of Kent, United Kingdom. Prof. Macharia Munene of USIU Nairobi Kenya gave the keynote address.
The ceremony was graced by members of Nyeri cabinet. UIt was flagged off by Deputy Mayor David Kinaniri.
